Intimiti Australia Pty Ltd, developer of CELYS™ compostable polyester, has announced that it has successfully completed in house compostable testing for its next generation material rCELYS™, a recycled and compostable polyester now advancing through fibre specification and performance optimisation.

rCELYS™ enables brands to meet their recycled material targets while delivering a complete end of life solution. Made from post-consumer plastic bottles, rCELYS™ retains the durability and versatility of conventional polyester yet is engineered to fully biodegrade without leaving microplastics.

“Many brands today use recycled polyester to meet short term sustainability goals, but few address what happens at the end of a product’s life,” said Dr. Gray Li, CTO of Intimiti. “Recycled polyester still sheds microplastics and remains in the environment for centuries. With rCELYS™, we are proving that recycled content can also be compostable, so that materials can finally return to nature.”

Recycled Origin, Compostable Future
While conventional rPET extends the lifespan of plastic waste, it remains a linear solution that continues to create microfibre pollution and faces limited reusability. rCELYS™ transforms this equation. By utilising enzymatic conversion technology, Intimiti reengineers recycled PET bottles into a compostable polyester that decomposes safely under industrial or controlled composting conditions, leaving behind only natural biomass, water, and carbon dioxide.

The first in house trials achieved full compostability, confirming that rCELYS™ upholds CELYS™ environmental integrity while introducing a recycled feedstock base. The next stage focuses on refining fibre specifications to meet global standards for strength, dyeability, and performance.

“Our goal is to move the conversation beyond ‘recycled equals good,’” said Eric Yip, COO at CELYS™. “rCELYS™ represents a paradigm shift: a fibre that starts with waste and ends with regeneration. This is the next chapter of circular innovation.”

A New Standard for Responsible Materials
rCELYS™ reflects Intimiti’s broader ambition to integrate textile circularity with low-carbon technologies, including ongoing research in enzymatic recycling and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) development under the Innovate P2X 2025 programme. Together, these initiatives signal a future where materials not only minimise impact but actively restore balance to the planet.

rCELYS™ is coming soon. A recycled, compostable polyester designed for a world ready to move beyond compromise.
