The Indian woolen carpets are inspired by the classical Persian Tradition of motifs to the most modern design. Indian carpets are distinguished by the paneled back or pronounced ribs running down the back of the carpet whereas modern carpets have a smooth back and the quality is not up to the mark. Carpets are an economically important but miniscule part of the floor covering popularly used in India.
