Singapore is an apparel hub, where more than US$2.5 billion worth of apparel is estimated to be sourced. The highly anticipated Asia Fashion Summit was executed at the Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore from April 28th-30th, 2010 proving to be a grand success in bringing all the industry professionals together. More than 200 fashion industry professionals including renowned brand names, senior executives, and 40 media representatives from all across the globe participated in the event.

Mrs. Lim Hwee Hua, Minister in Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for Finance and Transport, presided as the guest-of-honor. His opening speech clearly defined the objectives of Asia Fashion Summit as "the central driving force for the development of Asia as its strategic fashion hub." Further reinforcing the summit as a timely event in Asia's rebound from the global economic cycle was Minister Lim's statement that "the Asian fashion market is projected to grow at more than 5% compounded annual growth rate from 2008 to 2012."

Mr. Benny Pua, President of Textile & Fashion Federation (Singapore), the event organizer, welcomed delegates highlighting some key developments for the fashion and retail industry in Singapore and Asia. Mr. Pua affirmed that "under the umbrella of Asia Fashion Exchange, Singapore will now play host to a series of programmes to support the growth potential and dynamics of the Asian fashion industry. This joint initiative by SPRING Singapore, International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, the Singapore Tourism Board, supported by the Textile & Fashion Federation (Singapore), will no doubt bring new dimensions to the lively field of Asian fashion."

Changing attitudes of Asian consumers and their increasing exposure to international brands and stores were discussed. Research experts from around the region shared their most recent work on the mindset of the Asian consumers and discussed how this will affect fashion industry. World-class presentations with thought leaders from WGSN, Levi Strauss, New Look, MANGO and MNGbyMANGO, Lulu Guinness and Harvey Nichols helped to form a strong backbone of 32 expert speakers from a broad spectrum of the fashion and retail industries sharing their success stories, strategies and learned experiences with industry peers.
