India unveils draft guidelines for e-com firms

India has proposed guidelines for e-commerce firms thatmandate e-tailers to display details of sellers supplying goods and services ontheir websites and moot the procedure to resolve complaints and requires a14-day deadline to effect refund request. The draft makes it mandatory fore-commerce companies to ensure protection of personally identifiable customerinformation. The firms should be a registered legal entity under Indian lawsand should submit a self-declaration to the ministry stating that it isconforming to guidelines. The companies should also comply with the provisionsof Information Technology Rules, 2011. They will have to display on theirwebsites details about sellers supplying goods and services.

Cabinet approves Code Bill

The Union Cabinet on November 20 approved the Labour Codeon Industrial Relations 2019, allowing firms to hire workers on fixed-termcontract of any duration. The code has retained the threshold on the workercount at 100 for prior government approval before retrenchment but has aprovision for changing ‘such number of employees’ through notification.Fixed-term employment implies a worker can be hired for any duration, threemonths or six months or a year depending on season and orders.
