Fabric development is our backbone
Aeractive is not just another activewear brand—it is a movement rooted in intention, innovation, and identity. Designed for men and women who live life in motion, the label blends high-performance functionality with sleek, versatile aesthetics that seamlessly transition from workouts to daily life. At the heart of the brand lies a powerful philosophy—Aspire. Elevate. Rise.—which shapes everything from its proprietary fabrics like AerMod and AerFlow to its minimalist, movement-driven silhouettes.

With in-house design and manufacturing capabilities in India, Aeractive delivers end-to-end control over quality, fit, and finish—bridging the gap between premium global standards and local relevance. From fabric innovation and sustainable sourcing to digital-first community-building, the brand is redefining what it means to wear activewear in today’s India.

In an insightful conversation with Fibre2Fashion, Founder & CEO Krish Sharma talks about the inspiration behind Aeractive, the brand’s deep commitment to fabric technology and ethical production, and how it is carving out a distinct space in a crowded, fast-evolving market. From product to philosophy—this is activewear reimagined.

What was the core inspiration behind launching Aeractive, and how does the brand differentiate itself in the saturated activewear market?

Aeractive was born out of both personal desire and a clear gap in the Indian market. As someone who has been involved in sports and fitness all my life, I often struggled to find activewear that went beyond the usual global giants like Nike, Adidas, and Puma—brands that, while iconic, had begun to feel outdated in both design and innovation.
While studying in the US, I discovered brands like Gymshark, Alo, and Lululemon were redefining activewear with cutting-edge fabrics, modern fits, and a strong brand identity. It was clear to me that India was missing this sense of freshness, especially when it came to premium-quality performance wear that was also accessible. Most global brands are priced out of reach for the average Indian consumer, while local options often compromise on fabric, fit, or functionality.
With Aeractive, we set out to change that. Our mission is to offer high-performance, design-forward activewear made from proprietary fabrics all at a price point that resonates with the Indian consumer. We launched with a focus on menswear, which is significantly underserved in the Indian activewear space. Today, customers have to choose between expensive international labels or low-quality local alternatives. Aeractive is here to bridge that gap, delivering the quality of global brands with the accessibility and relevance of a homegrown label.
We wanted performance wear that felt as good as it functioned—apparel that could support intense workouts, allow recovery, and still be stylish enough to wear beyond the gymnasium. Most activewear in the market felt too synthetic or too trend-focused, often compromising on comfort or quality. With Aeractive, we set out to change that. Our biggest differentiator lies in our end-to-end control: everything is designed and manufactured in-house at our facilities in India. We pair this with proprietary fabrics tailored for breathability, stretch, and softness, made specifically for the Indian climate. The result? Purpose-built essentials that blend sophistication with performance.

Who is the ideal Aeractive customer, and how has their feedback influenced your brand journey so far?

The ideal Aeractive customer is someone who leads an active lifestyle and values both performance and aesthetics. They could be a young professional squeezing in a morning workout before work, a personal trainer pushing limits at the gym, or someone embracing wellness as part of their everyday routine. What unites them is a mindset, they care about how they feel while moving, they appreciate high-quality design, and they are looking for activewear that can keep up with every part of their day.
Our community has played a huge role in shaping the brand. From fit and functionality to product innovation, we have taken every piece of feedback seriously. Early customers loved the fabric feel but wanted more versatile silhouettes, so we evolved our designs to offer better transitions from workout to lifestyle. Others highlighted the lack of premium menswear options in India, which reinforced our decision to lead with a strong men’s line.
More than anything, our customers have helped us stay rooted in purpose, reminding us that Aeractive is not just about what you wear, but how it makes you feel when you move through life with intention.

Aeractive’s pieces blend style with performance. How do you balance aesthetics with functionality during product development?

At Aeractive, every product starts with a purpose. We design with movement in mind. Functionality is at the core of our development process, but we believe that performance should not come at the cost of style. Our goal is to create pieces that perform as well in the gym as they look on the street.
We work closely with our fabric partners to develop proprietary textiles that meet high standards of breathability, stretch, moisture-wicking, and durability while also offering a luxurious hand-feel and elevated finish. Once the technical foundation is set, we focus on tailoring, silhouette, and detail, ensuring each piece not only fits seamlessly into an active lifestyle but also reflects a refined and classic aesthetic.
We draw inspiration from global trends and merge them with the practical needs of high-performance wear. The result is a product that is equally suited for training, travel, and everything in between. It is this intersection of form and function that defines the Aeractive ethos.

Can you walk us through your design and fabric selection process, especially considering the emphasis on breathable, sweat-wicking materials?

Fabric development is our backbone. We work closely with cutting edge global mills to create textiles that can handle the Indian climate and diverse routines of our consumers. We intentionally avoid overused synthetic blends and instead blend natural yarns with technical finishes to enhance breathability, moisture-wicking, and durability. Once the fabric passes our internal comfort and performance tests, we move into prototyping, testing each design for movement, stretch, and wear over time. Our AerFlow, AerBrush, AerMod, and AerLuxe fabrics are the result of this process.

What role do fabric innovations like antimicrobial, sweat-wicking, and 4-way stretch materials play in shaping the future of performance wear?

They are foundational. Performance wear without performance fabrics is just clothing. These innovations enable the functionality people now expect: comfort, hygiene, and durability. But beyond the technical specifications, it is about how those features translate to daily life. If a fabric can help you move better and feel better, it is doing its job.

Sustainability and mindful consumption are gaining ground. Does Aeractive take any steps in this direction, either in materials or manufacturing?

Absolutely. Sustainability is an integral part of how we operate, and not just a checkbox. All our products are either produced in-house or in manufacturing facilities that are ECOCERT and GOTS-certified, ensuring high environmental and ethical standards throughout the production process.
On the materials front, we consciously incorporate natural and lower-impact alternatives wherever possible. For example, our AerMod fabric is made from micromodal—a natural fibre known for its breathability and softness offering a sustainable alternative to traditional polyester. In cases where performance demands the use of polyester or nylon, we opt for recycled yarns to reduce our environmental footprint.
Our goal is to continuously innovate in both fabric and process, creating pieces that are not only high-performing and stylish, but also more responsible choices for today’s conscious consumer.

In what ways is sustainability influencing product design and consumer choices in the activewear segment today?

Consumers are asking smarter questions, and rightly so. They want to know where their clothes come from, what they are made of, and how long they will last. This pressure is pushing brands to slow down, re-evaluate materials, and design more responsibly. At Aeractive, we are responding to that call by building better products from the start with care, with purpose, and with the future in mind.

You have curated sleek, versatile looks that can go beyond the gym. Was this cross-functional versatility always part of your vision?

Yes, 100 per cent. The goal was to create essentials that do not require you to think twice. Can you wear it to a yoga session and then head straight for coffee? That was our benchmark. Versatility was always baked into our product development.

How is the activewear industry adapting to the growing demand for multifunctional apparel that bridges fitness, lifestyle, and fashion?

The industry is moving away from siloed wardrobes. Today, it is not uncommon for a single outfit to carry you from morning to night. This is forcing brands to rethink construction, aesthetics, and fabric choice. Aeractive embraces this shift by offering refined staples that serve multiple functions, without looking overtly ‘gym-focused’.

With more consumers prioritising wellness and mindful movement, how is the definition of ‘activewear’ evolving globally and in India?

Globally and in India, activewear is becoming a broader lifestyle category. It is no longer defined by intensity. Today, it is about intention. Whether you are walking your dog, meditating, or lifting weights, what you wear should support that mindset. Aeractive embraces this by creating pieces that feel good to live in, not just work out in.

The brand has a bold, modern appeal. How do you see fashion influencing the future of fitness wear in India, and how does Aeractive contribute to this shift?

We are seeing a definite cultural shift where activewear is no longer limited to the gym. People want pieces that can transition through multiple moments in their day, workouts, errands, travel and even casual meetings. This has pushed fitness brands to pay attention to cuts, finishes, and styling. Aeractive was built with this very mindset. We believe you should not have to change clothes to change your pace. Our designs embrace minimalism and utility, while staying sharp and elevated for any activity whether it is a high intensity workout or a casual coffee run.

With D2C being your primary model, how do you approach community-building and customer engagement digitally?

We are building our community through transparency and education, sharing behind-the-scenes processes, fabric deep-dives, and real customer stories. Our goal is not just to sell but to start conversations around movement, wellness, and self-growth. Social is a huge part of that, but so are our e-mails, our packaging, and every digital touchpoint. We are also working on coming up with challenges for our community, such as a 30-day aer fitness challenge, where participants can post their journey and results online, sharing it with our community and inspiring others to become a better version of themselves.

How are digital-native activewear brands leveraging influencer marketing and social commerce to build stronger communities and drive growth?

Digital-native activewear brands are redefining the way consumers engage with fitness and fashion by using influencer marketing and social commerce not just as tools for conversion, but as engines for community and trust.
Influencer partnerships today go beyond paid promotions. Brands are building long-term relationships with creators who authentically align with their values—whether it is wellness, movement, or mindful living. These creators act as community builders, offering relatability and real-world validation that traditional advertising cannot achieve. For Aeractive, this means collaborating with fitness professionals, everyday athletes, and lifestyle influencers who genuinely live the values we stand for.

What has been your biggest challenge in building Aeractive—from concept to consumer? How did you overcome it?

One of our biggest challenges was developing fabrics that delivered on both performance and comfort without compromising on our environmental values. We were clear from the start that we did not want to rely on generic polyester blends just to tick boxes. It took months of R&D, countless iterations, and close collaboration with some of the best mills to engineer the proprietary textiles that now form the foundation of Aeractive—fabrics that are lightweight, breathable, functional, and feel incredibly soft on the skin.
Another major challenge has been cutting through the noise in an increasingly crowded activewear space. Rather than chasing trends, we have chosen to let our product speak for itself supported by thoughtful storytelling and authentic community-building. Our vision goes beyond apparel; we are building a movement rooted in fitness, wellness, and mindful living. Aeractive is not just a brand you wear, it is a lifestyle you live. We want to inspire a community of people who prioritise feeling good, moving better, and showing up every day as the best version of themselves.

What is next for Aeractive? Are there plans to expand into new categories, markets, or collaborations?

We are just getting started. Our immediate focus is on expanding the core range, bringing in more layering pieces, performance accessories, and category-specific gear. International markets are definitely on the horizon, and we are exploring strategic partnerships and collaborations that align with our values.
