ColDesi is leading innovation in custom apparel tech
ColDesi is a global leader in apparel decoration technology, offering Direct to Film (DTF), embroidery, digital printing, and automation solutions. With a strong focus on innovation, training, and customer support, ColDesi empowers businesses of all sizes to scale confidently in the fast-growing customisation industry. In an interview with Fibre2Fashion, Senior Account Manager, Jerry Erich discusses the technologies and trends shaping the future of custom apparel.
ColDesi offers a wide range of equipment for apparel decoration. Which product categories are driving the highest growth today?
Direct to Film (DTF) has experienced remarkable growth over the past five years and has clearly taken centre stage in the industry. Embroidery equipment has remained steady for many years, and we expect this trend to continue.
We are also seeing increased investment in peripheral technologies, particularly automated cutting solutions that complement DTF workflows.
How is ColDesi integrating new technologies like automation or AI into its decorating and personalisation solutions?
We use AI extensively across our internal operations. More importantly, we guide our customers toward AI-powered artwork tools, web platforms, and business solutions—helping them make smarter, faster decisions that support long-term growth.
With customisation booming, how does ColDesi support small businesses transitioning into on-demand production?
Education is a major focus for us. Our team produces extensive ‘how-to’ content, training resources, and a popular podcast series to equip small businesses with the knowledge they need to confidently adopt on-demand workflows.
Sustainability pressures are rising in the decoration industry. What steps is ColDesi taking to promote eco-friendly inks, processes, or waste reduction?
Digital textile decoration is inherently more sustainable requiring less waste, water, and power compared to traditional methods. It also supports true on-demand production, reducing the risk of excess inventory and waste from bulk orders.
Training and support are key to machinery adoption. What innovations has ColDesi introduced in customer education and after-sales service?
Training is a core pillar for us because knowledge fuels business growth. We offer a team of dedicated support specialists and a robust library of online content to help customers navigate the initial learning curve with confidence.
How do you evaluate new technologies or partners before bringing them into the ColDesi ecosystem?
Our vetting process is extensive. Any potential partner must align with our values and uphold the high standards ColDesi is known for.
How does ColDesi help businesses scale from entry-level equipment to advanced production systems?
It begins with understanding the customer’s needs. Are they looking to increase production? Reduce risk through redundancy? Adopt more scalable methods? Save floor space? A deep needs assessment allows us to design tailored, future-ready solutions.
Which regions are showing the strongest demand for digital decoration equipment?
Demand is truly global. That said, developed economies with higher disposable income often present greater opportunities for digital decoration technologies.
What major trends will shape the future of custom apparel and personalisation over the next 3–5 years?
We expect major advancements in automation—especially in pre- and post-print stages—as well as equipment with higher production capacity and more seamless workflow integration.
How is the rise of on-demand manufacturing influencing investment in digital printing and embroidery technologies?
On-demand manufacturing enables greater design creativity, limited-edition collections, and more responsive replenishment cycles. Brands can produce only what is needed and reorder using a just-in-time model, significantly reducing waste.
What advancements in inks, consumables, or printing methods are most critical for improving sustainability in apparel decoration?
The industry has already shifted heavily toward digital technologies, lowering its overall environmental impact. To expand this progress into large-scale manufacturing, we need more productive digital systems capable of meeting industrial demand sustainably.
How are rising consumer expectations for personalisation affecting production speeds and technology adoption?
Consumers expect quick ordering and fast delivery. While digital production is ideal for small batches and one-offs, fulfilling thousands of orders daily can strain workflows. This is driving rapid adoption of integrated software—from point of sale to production to dispatch—to boost efficiency and minimise downtime.
