Our process is the result of expertise honed over five generations
Le Cashmere is among the world’s leading producers of premium cashmere knitwear and accessories, backed by more than 140 years of heritage. Founded in 1883 as an artisan yarn supplier and expanding into garment manufacturing in 1954, the company has grown into a trusted global partner for luxury private-label brands.

Grounded in craftsmanship, reliability, and long-standing client partnerships, Le Cashmere continues to strengthen its capabilities to stay agile in today’s luxury market while upholding ethical practices, fair labour standards, and timeless artisanal traditions.

In this exclusive interview with Fibre2Fashion, CEO Mohsin Sheikh reflects on the brand’s legacy and its evolution into a global leader in luxury cashmere.

What inspired you to start Le Cashmere, and how does the brand differentiate itself in the luxury cashmere market?

My inspiration is deeply rooted in honouring a 140-year legacy. As the fifth generation, I didn’t start Le Cashmere—I inherited the responsibility of carrying forward the brand founded by my great-great-grandfather in 1883.
Our distinction comes from a unique combination of unmatched pedigree, generational craftsmanship, and unwavering integrity.
Five generations of long-standing relationships give us rare access to the finest, longest cashmere fibres, while our artisans continue to apply time-honoured techniques that create a rich, superior hand-feel.
At the same time, we uphold ethical and fully transparent sourcing at every stage. What we offer is not just luxury knitwear, but a living heritage shaped by tradition, responsibility, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.

How do you ensure the authenticity and superior fibre quality of your cashmere?

As a fifth-generation leader, I believe our history is our greatest guarantee. We uphold superior quality and authenticity through complete vertical integration and long-standing relationships built over more than a century.
Our multigenerational partnerships with herders give us privileged access to the finest, longest cashmere fibres—the top 1 per cent globally by micron and length.
Every stage of production is supported by rigorous in-house testing, from raw fibre inspection to the final weave. This unbroken chain of custody, preserved since 1883, ensures not only exceptional quality but also verified ethical provenance.

Could you share the craftsmanship process behind your garments, from sourcing to final product?

Our process is the result of expertise honed over five generations. It begins with privileged access to the finest, longest fibres, made possible by our longstanding relationships with nomadic herders.
Every raw fibre then undergoes careful in-house inspection and preparation before it is entrusted to our seasoned artisans. Using traditional methods of spinning, dyeing, and weaving—all carried out within our own facility—we maintain complete control over quality.
This vertical integration ensures an exceptional hand-feel and craftsmanship, culminating in garments that reflect our legacy of excellence dating back to 1883.

How do you balance traditional craftsmanship with modern design elements?

Our enduring balance stems from a deep reverence for the sacred nature of our craft, harmoniously paired with a passionate embrace of evolving style. The unwavering foundation of our quality lies in our traditional sourcing expertise and the time-honoured finishing techniques that have been meticulously passed down through our company since 1883.
This heritage is strengthened by our in-house capabilities, including a dedicated design team, showrooms in Europe, the UK, and New York, an archive of 650 stock colours from our own yarns, and the flexibility to adapt quantities to client needs.
We further elevate this legacy by collaborating with contemporary designers across London, Europe, and New York, bringing modern sensibilities—updated silhouettes, relevant colour palettes, and functional details—into our collections.
This vital fusion of heritage and innovation ensures that every garment maintains its peerless quality and luxurious hand-feel, while remaining deeply relevant and aspirational for today’s discerning luxury consumer.

What steps does Le Cashmere take to ensure ethical and sustainable production?

Our commitment to ethical and sustainable production is deeply rooted in our heritage. We honour this legacy through direct, fair partnerships with herders, sustaining multi-generational relationships that remove middlemen and ensure they are properly compensated for their skill and knowledge.
We also prioritise rangeland health by supporting responsible rotational grazing, which protects fragile grasslands and safeguards the long-term wellbeing of the goat population.
With full vertical integration, we maintain complete traceability throughout our supply chain, providing an unbroken chain of custody that verifies the ethical provenance of our fibre from its source to the finished garment.
This approach ensures that our interpretation of luxury is grounded in integrity, environmental responsibility, and enduring respect for the people and landscapes behind our craft.

How does Le Cashmere build trust with customers purchasing premium luxury online?

Building trust online for a premium product means translating our legacy of quality into clear, accessible digital transparency. We do this through detailed product storytelling and full visibility into our supply chain.
Our website highlights our 1883 heritage, our ethical partnerships with herders, and the exceptional fibre quality—down to micron and length—that justifies the value of each piece.
We also elevate the customer experience with personalised concierge support through live chat or video consultations, along with secure checkout and a seamless return policy.
Together, these elements ensure that our online presence reflects the same exclusivity, confidence, and care as a luxury boutique.

What product innovations or new collections are you currently focusing on?

At Le Cashmere, product innovation is a continuous, ever-evolving process—it truly never stops. Our design teams are the creative engine, developing hundreds of new patterns and concepts every month. We don’t limit ourselves to the current season; we are constantly shaping ideas for future collections as well.
This relentless pace of creation ensures two things for our global clients: a consistently rich selection of the latest styles, and access to exclusive, pioneering products that shape the next era of luxury cashmere.
At Le Cashmere, we are always moving forward.

What are your expansion goals—new categories, geographies, or collaborative partnerships?

We are continually expanding our global reach. Recently, we have concentrated on building strategic partnerships with leading luxury brands and respected retailers in key emerging markets. Notably, we have made significant progress in regions such as the Far East, Australia, and Brazil.
These collaborations form a strong foundation for our broader international strategy, helping us bring our heritage and exceptional quality to new, discerning audiences around the world.

What role is technology playing in enhancing quality control and inventory efficiency within the premium wool and cashmere sector?

Technology plays a crucial role in our operations, but it is designed to enhance—not replace—our human expertise. We employ advanced digital quality-control systems, from fibre analysis to precision knitting, yet we firmly believe that true quality begins with our people.
Rigorous, continuous staff training remains the backbone of our Quality Control (QC) philosophy.
In parallel, we have made significant investments in customised inventory-management platforms that integrate AI and real-time tracking. These systems enable exceptional accuracy and efficiency, ensuring that our finest cashmere is always available when our clients need it.

How is the luxury knitwear industry evolving to meet growing expectations for traceability and sustainable fibre sourcing?

The luxury knitwear industry is undergoing a vital shift as traceability becomes essential. Today’s consumers want the full story behind each garment, focusing not only on what it is but how it was made.
In response, the industry is embracing advanced technologies—such as blockchain and forensic tracers—to digitally verify fibre origin and ensure a clear, unbroken chain of custody.
At the same time, there is a greater commitment to certified sustainable fibres, including those endorsed by the Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA) or The Good Cashmere Standard, which uphold ethical animal welfare and responsible, regenerative grazing practices.
For Le Cashmere, this level of transparency is not new; it is a continuation of the values we have upheld since 1883, now strengthened by verifiable data.
