Our philosophy revolves around empowering confidence
Sammyukk is a contemporary fashion label founded by siblings Samiha and Yukith, offering high-end Western wear inspired by global art history. Blending intricate embroidery and historical motifs with modern silhouettes, Sammyukk caters to confident individuals who value sophistication, self-expression, and timeless elegance. Speaking to Fibre2Fashion, Director and Founder Samiha Jha shares the journey behind the brand, its design philosophy, commitment to sustainability, and vision for the future.
What inspired you to start Sammyukk, and what gap in the fashion industry were you aiming to fill?
Sammyukk was founded out of a mutual interest in fashion since it has been a part of our lives since childhood. My mother was a fashion designer, and seeing her design pieces made me intrigued about the fashion world. Growing up, my brother, Yukith, found himself drawn closely to fashion through his profession as a model. We both believe that designer fashion-inspired, great-quality clothes need to be affordable without having to sacrifice quality. We aim to make fashion more inclusive by delivering stylish, well-made clothing at accessible prices.
The name ‘Sammyukk’ is unique—what is the story behind it?
The word ‘Sammyukk’ is very personal and signifies the common vision shared by my younger brother, Yukith, and me. While I was pursuing my passion for fashion design, Yukith built up his career professionally as a model. Our shared interest in fashion took the shape of an ambition to launch our label. While choosing our brand’s name, we wanted something that would symbolise both of us, and thus ‘Sammyukk’ was created—a combination of our names, Samiha and Yukith. It symbolises not just our partnership but also our dedication to creating a brand that unifies our innovative minds, love for craftsmanship, and sense of fashion.
Your brand philosophy emphasises empowering confidence. How do you translate this into your designs?
At Sammyukk, our philosophy revolves around empowering confidence, and we incorporate these in our designs through bold silhouettes, intricate craftsmanship, and statement-making details. This is what inspires our motto of ‘for the bold and bosses’ in every piece through empowered silhouettes, delicate handwork, and show-stopping details. We use built-in structure, dramatic folds, and royal finishes to craft apparel that makes heads turn without giving up on chic. Drawing inspiration from historical ages, like the Art Nouveau era, the Renaissance, and Egypt’s royalty, we blend the bold imagination with contemporary style. Without losing comfort and functionality, we create every Sammyukk piece to give the wearer the confidence, assertiveness, and ability to leave an impression.
Your designs blend historical motifs with contemporary silhouettes. Can you share some key influences that shape your collections?
Our designs beautifully mix historical inspiration with contemporary shapes and are drawn from diverse artistic and cultural inspirations. My source of inspiration for this season has been mainly the Art Nouveau style, especially Gustav Klimt’s ornate motifs and opulent golden colours. Our collection includes Renaissance-floral embroidery, Tudor rose embroidery, and design inspiration from Egyptian Pharaohs, along with the royal outfits of Cleopatra. By combining these historical allusions with contemporary tailoring, we hope to produce clothing that is both refined and durable. Additionally, each piece expresses a profound respect for history and craftsmanship alongside a fresh, modern look for the fashion-forward individual today.
You have different collections like ‘Epoch Elegance’ and ‘The Vintage.’ How do you conceptualise these distinct styles while maintaining a cohesive brand identity?
Each of our collections at Sammyukk is designed to embody our quintessential self—strong, stylish, and liberating fashion. Whether Epoch Elegance or Vintage, each line is designed to reflect confidence and sophistication. Epoch Elegance gets its inspiration from a time of luxury in highly constructed silhouettes that lean towards power and sophistication, while The Vintage reworks traditional pieces. Although the pieces take their inspiration from unique aesthetics, every line shares a common thread of dramatic silhouettes, opulent embellishments, and adherence to individuality. By integrating historical influences in harmony with modern fashion, we make sure that each Sammyukk design is a declaration of self-assurance and development.
Craftsmanship plays a crucial role in your brand. Can you walk us through the meticulous process behind creating a Sammyukk piece?
Sammyukk’s strength lies in craftsmanship, and every piece goes through a tough process of precision, quality, and originality. It starts with extensive research to study fashion trends and conceptualise them through mood boards, colour boards, and storyboards. Once the idea has been crystallised, they are transferred to paper in terms of sketches, which then lead to pattern-making and toile development phases. After the fit is finalised, we source premium fabrics and experiment with embroidery, prints, and embellishments. Every detail is tested stringently before the final sample is developed. Every Sammyukk piece goes through a tedious process, which guarantees that our designs are not only fashionable but wearable as well.
Sustainability and ethical production are increasingly important in fashion. How does Sammyukk ensure responsible sourcing and production?
Ethics and sustainability are the core of our brand; we value conscious creation over mass production, where each piece is created with intention and care. Our main focus is on creating limited-edition pieces, which further allow us to maintain exclusivity while reducing waste. Our eco-friendly way of obtaining is buying what we need only, i.e., fabrics, trim, and accessories, and not holding extra stock and out-of-date inventory. This approach reduces waste and ensures each piece is meaningful and purposefully created. By following this ethical principle, we can provide quality, deliberately designed pieces that are in balance with sustainability and the changing needs of our customers.
Consumer preferences are shifting towards ethical and transparent supply chains. How can fashion brands effectively communicate their sustainability efforts to customers?
Fashion firms should be honest and clear about their commitment to sustainability, as consumers are demanding ethical and transparent supply chains. Transparency begins with speaking clearly about sources, fair manufacturing processes, and sustainable making, which gives trust. Digital narrative using behind-the-scenes content, green labels, and third-party ratings enhances credibility. Traceability measures such as blockchain or QR codes allow customers to verify sustainability statements. Fostering responsible consumption through repair facilities, recycling schemes, and learning programmes further consolidates brand devotion. At Sammyukk, we integrate all these steps in order to encourage authentic interaction to connect with our customers about the idea of awareness and ethical clothing.
How do you see the balance between fast fashion and sustainable fashion evolving in the next five years?
The balance between quick and sustainable fashion is bound to change in the coming years as the green production agenda comes into the limelight. Consumers are becoming more quality-conscious than quantity-conscious, which creates demand for sustainable, ethically produced clothing. Slow fashion ideas will be adopted by more brands with limited collections and superior manufacturing. Fast fashion will remain constant; however, manufacturers will include environmentally conscious raw material sourcing and transparent supply chains. Advances in technology, more regulations, and innovative production methods will continue driving this transformation. We are dedicated to responsible sourcing and conscious creation and putting sustainability as our focus at Sammyukk.
What challenges have you faced as a fashion entrepreneur, and how have you overcome them?
As a fashion entrepreneur, building Sammyukk has been tough, but with everyone’s support in our vision, we were able to stand strong. In this rapidly evolving world of e-commerce, we need to have a personality, and we get it by being consistent with our philosophy—merging historical inspiration with modern fashion in order to generate show-stopping pieces. We achieve effective coordination with the help of superior craftsmanship, all while efficiently meeting urgent deadlines. Balancing premium quality with price affordability is another aspect, achieved through a limited-production format that stays at an excellence level. In the face of these challenges, our passion, craftsmanship, commitment, and desire for innovation position Sammyukk ahead as a leading brand.
What are the biggest challenges currently facing fashion entrepreneurs, and what strategies can help overcome them in today’s competitive market?
Fashion business owners are exposed to numerous challenges, such as intensified competition, complexity of the supply chain, sustainability pressure, and quick innovation in online business. Brands have to address these challenges by investing in technologies such as the application of AI for forecasting, blockchain for tracing, and digital marketing for connection to become more efficient and trusted. Loyalty from customers is enhanced through highlighting sustainability through ethical sourcing and limited collections. In addition, the creation of personalised experiences through interactive digital environments and in-store environments builds brand loyalty. By embracing innovation without compromising their sense of values, entrepreneurs can overcome such issues and build lasting footprints in today’s competitive fashion industry.
In a fast-changing fashion landscape, what strategies do you use to stay relevant while maintaining your brand’s core values?
In a fast-changing fashion landscape, Sammyukk stays up-to-date but authentic to its roots by combining innovation and creativity. We selectively adopt global fashion trends, ensuring they complement our signature fusion of historical inspirations and modern silhouettes. With limited-edition collections as our focus, we ensure exclusivity and sustainability. Further, our brand identity is based on strong storytelling that emphasises history and craftsmanship. By connecting with our audience on social media and offering tailored experiences, we craft pieces that resonate deeply with them. Our main focus is on quality rather than quantity, making sure that every piece is timeless and sophisticated, in turn keeping Sammyukk exclusive.
With the rise of direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands, how can traditional retailers and designers adapt to remain competitive?
With DTC brands gaining popularity, conventional designers and retailers must innovate to remain relevant. Building brand identity through storytelling and scarcity creates stronger customer relationships. Digital transformation through premium e-commerce experiences, AI-powered personalisation, and social commerce is a necessity. Sustainability and ethical manufacturing are becoming differentiators, as sustainable consumers value responsible fashion. Furthermore, limited-edition drops and experience shopping, like personalised styling and in-store events, offer enhanced value to the brand. The hybrid business model, with a mix of retail and DTC operations, provides room to evolve and adapt to new demands. We incorporate these features at Sammyukk to stay competitive while staying true to our brand ethos.
What role do emerging technologies like AI, 3D printing, and blockchain play in shaping the future of fashion retail and manufacturing?
Emerging technologies like AI, 3D printing, and blockchain are transforming fashion retail and manufacturing into a more efficient and sustainable industry. AI is making trend prediction, personalised shopping, and supply chain management possible by minimising loss and maximising customer engagement. Additionally, 3D printing enables on-demand manufacturing, saves material loss, and encourages customisation, making green fashion possible. Further, blockchain provides credibility by verifying ethical production, curbing counterfeiting, and safeguarding fair trade practices. As technology transforms the business, brands must transform to survive. At Sammyukk, we are innovative, with smart design procedures and sustainable sourcing allowing us to spearhead the fashion tech revolution.
What is next for Sammyukk? Can we expect new collections, collaborations, or expansion into different markets?
Sammyukk is set to expand significantly, with exciting development plans on the horizon. We are building a strong presence in global markets, bringing our signature combination of confident silhouettes and heritage influences to the global forefront. We are also preparing the ground for the Luxe Collection, fashion at its upscale best without lowering the standards on quality, wealth of detail, and luxurious texturing. At some point down the line, we are ready to launch a brick-and-mortar store to provide an immersive shopping experience, prolonging the visit and intensity of consumer interaction. Our innovation, sustainability, self-belief, and brand optimism are strong years ahead.
