Customer is looking for atomised instruments
Testing is finding the acceptance long overdue to it. Mag Solvics is a reputed name in India for textile testing instruments. Based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, this company claims to have more than 7,500 installations worldwide as of today, and the majority of its market share is in the domestic zone. In an exclusive interview with Fibre2Fashion, Dhandayuthapani, director of Mag Solvics Private Limited, dwells upon the latest in the textile testing instruments industry.

What would be the size of the market for textile testing instruments? How much of that does Mag Solvics claim for itself?

There is a sizable market for textile testing instruments. The awareness about quality has been much more in the recent past. That is the reason everybody has been looking for quality control instruments. Industries, which earlier managed manually without proper quality instruments, are now looking for instruments. It is a part of projects worth doing as capital products. As far as Mag is concerned, it is the only company making instruments for the entire spectrum of textiles. You name any quality parameter and Mag has instruments for the same. Mag is very conscious of the quality of its products, the performance, reliability and repeatability of the results. Our presence is not only in India, but abroad as well. We have repeat customers of the same group. We have a good presence in the market.

What new innovations can one expect in the industry for textile testing instruments?

Automation. Nowadays, customer looks for atomised instruments. That is also the focus of Mag. For example, Mag has come out with a new innovative product called Accutrash (fully-automatic trash separator), where customers can determine the percentage of trash content in raw cotton, blow-room lap and carding sliver. It differs from existing products where the sample can be tested in a single feed (widened sample feeding area) with precise and rapid measurement. Trash is being separated using buoyancy separation techniques by the use of air current. There is no manual intervention and all data gets stored in the software.

What are the sustainability issues plaguing this industry?

Whoever supplies quality products at an affordable cost and continuous development with the latest technology updated can stay on in the market. We believe that these are very basic for sustainability in this industry. Mag is very positive on both fronts. We never compromised on the quality of products. R&D is our strength. Various divisions within R&D, with specialised people in the respective division, are taking care of product development by considering the above fronts. Hence, there won't be any issues on this context. Mag's R&D has been recognised by the government of India.
