The three major disruptions in the hotel linen, uniform and hotel mattress niches are the malicious low-price competition, the requirements of energy conservation and environmental protection, and weak protection of technology patents, according to Helen Du, deputy director of the Shanghai International Hospitality Design & Supplies Expo (HDE).
Despite the linen and uniform market being highly standardised and transparent, some manufacturers get orders through low prices but offer low quality, she told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.
Energy conservation and environmental protection efforts raise production costs and profits reduce. Some small and medium-sized enterprises may even go bust due to the excessive operational pressure, she said.
Weak protection of technology patents weakens the spirit of production and research and will be harmful to long-term development of the whole industry, she added.
