According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, China’s exports to the US constituted 15.64 per cent of its total leather apparel and accessory exports in the first eight months of this year. Japan was the second-largest market, receiving $1.525 billion worth of goods, representing 6.36 per cent of China’s total exports.
China’s exports to other countries during this period included $1,141.015 million to Malaysia (4.76 per cent), $1,050.632 million to Singapore (4.38 per cent), $984.338 million to South Korea (4.10 per cent), $810.149 million to Germany (3.38 per cent), $726.736 million to Mexico (3.03 per cent), $704.774 million to Italy (2.94 per cent), $631.800 million to the Netherlands (2.63 per cent), and $596.669 million to France (2.49 per cent).
TexPro data indicates that exports of trunks, suitcases, and vanity cases (HSN code 420212) from China reached $8.976 billion, accounting for 35.89 per cent of the total leather apparel and accessory exports. Suitcases under various HSN codes dominated this product category within leather apparel and accessories.
In 2023, China’s leather apparel and accessory exports were valued at $37.892 billion, down from $38.613 billion in 2022, reflecting a 1.86 per cent decline. This downward trend has continued into the current year, with exports decreasing by approximately 6 per cent so far.
