Amazon is increasing its infrastructure footprint opening its largest fulfilment centre (FC) in Haryana with the view to enhance customer experience ahead of the festive season. Spread over close to 300,000 square feet with over 1.5 million cubic feet of storage space, the centre situated in Panchgaon will enable faster delivery to customers in the region.

The company now has more than five million cubic feet of storage space in the state. This FC is one of the five announced for 2018. Amazon India will exit 2018 with more than 50 fulfilment centres in 13 states across the country with a combined storage space of close to 20 million cubic feet.

On the launch, Devender Singh additional chief secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Haryana government, said, “Amazon India’s further investment in Haryana with the launch of their largest fulfilment centre signifies the growing interest of large global enterprises in the state. The FC will enable small and medium businesses selling locally created products such as apparel, handlooms and handicraft to service customers seamlessly across the country. It will also provide support to the local economy by enabling the growth of ancillary businesses such as packaging, transportation, logistics, and hospitality across the state. This fulfilment centre will create direct and indirect opportunities for thousands of people in the region. We are committed to enabling the ease of doing business and helping companies like Amazon to expand their presence in Haryana.”

“In line with our vision to transform the way India buys and sells, we have been consistently investing in our infrastructure and delivery network, so we can increase our speed of delivery and provide a superior experience to both – customers and sellers. With the launch of our largest fulfilment centre in Haryana, we now have a storage capacity of more than five million cubic feet in the state. We strongly believe that we will be able to better serve our customers with one-day and two-day delivery. The FC will enable sellers to use the local infrastructure, save capital and help them grow,” said Akhil Saxena, vice president, Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India.

When using fulfilment By Amazon (FBA), sellers across India send their products to Amazon’s FCs and once an order is placed, Amazon picks, packs and ships the order to the customer, provides customer service and manages returns on behalf of the sellers. The FC in Haryana will cater to customer demand for products in categories such as smartphones, consumer electronics, appliances, fashion and consumables (FMCG).

Sellers save money by replacing their upfront capital expense with low variable cost and pay only for the storage space they use and the orders that Amazon fulfils. Sellers always have the flexibility to choose number of products they want to have fulfilled by Amazon and scale according to their business requirements. Currently, millions of products are available for immediate shipping through the network of Amazon’s FCs in India. (SV)
