Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has called on the garment industry in the state to develop effective strategies to stay effective amidst fast changing fashion.

Inaugurating the 20th National Garment Fair in Ahmedabad, the CM stressed on developing the state’s textile industry in line with 5Fs – Farm, Fibre, Fabric, Fashion and Foreign.

He asked the garment producers to promote the ‘Made in India' brand with ‘Zero Defect' to raise the country’s credibility.

Citing cotton as a key input for the garment industry, Mr. Modi said cotton prices have direct impact on cotton growers as well as on the prices of apparels.

The garments need to be priced competitively, should be fashion-forward and sell fast. This, he said, can be achieved only through mass production attuned with changing fashion, with a special focus on preferences of the health conscious new generation.

Focusing on globalization of economy, Mr. Modi said that the state government would soon come up with a new Integrated Textile Policy to counter the challenges faced by the industry through cluster approach, which would also help in generation of newer employment opportunities.

Around 500 garment firms participated in the three-day fair hosted by Gujarat Garment Manufacturers Association (GGMA).
