Alvanon, an apparel fitting company has granted world class technical tools to the Council of Fashion Designers of America's (CFDA's) Fashion Manufacturing Initiative for the second year running.

“The grants were made as part of Alvanon's Fashion Fit Movement, a program designed to help restore technical skills to New York City and other global fashion hubs, including Hong Kong and London,” an Alvanon press release said.

CFDA in turn has awarded the tools, which include Alvaform technical fit mannequins, technical grading blocks and Virtual Alvaforms, to two New York City-based fashion firms; Design Incubator and Sunrise Studio.

Design Incubator specialises in garment development, taking design concepts from sketch to finished products and its clients include; Creatures of the Wind, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Derek Lam, Mara Hoffman and Timo Weiland.

Amy Fong, the founder, has over 30 years of experience in fashion and has helped many new designers launch into successful companies, such as Proenza Schouler, Rogan and Bonobos.

“Alvanon's forms are wonderful and very well designed, while the other forms we have probably were designed a hundred years ago and have not been updated by those companies in ages,” Fong too said.

Sunrise Studio is a high-end sample and production contractor and its production categories range from silk chiffon to leather, woven and knits.

Its clients include; Helmut Lang, Proenza Schouler, The Row, Calvin Klein Collection, Marc Jacobs Collection and Urban Zen, Alexander Wang, Rebecca Taylor and 10 Crosby.

“We want to express our highest appreciation to Alvanon for their unceasing support to our fashion industry since their products are simply impeccable,” Peter Chan, managing partner, Sunrise Studio said.

Alvanon launched its Fit Movement in 2012 by granting a two year mentorship to designer and namesake brand, Carrie Parry.

Since then, Alvanon has supplied grants and mentoring to a variety of fashion organisations and small businesses, including patternmaker Werkstatt.

It has also supplied to associations that support the reshoring of apparel manufacturing jobs to the US, such as the CFDA.

“Alvanon is delighted that two of New York's most promising and creative fashion concerns are recipients of our 2015 technical tools grant to CFDA,” says Alvanon CEO Janice Wang.

“Each has a laser focus on the technical aspects of product development, which helps bring their breathtaking designs to life and their skillfully finished creations to a grateful global market,” Wang added. (AR)
