Amazon India has announced the launch of its second fulfilment centre (FC) in Uttar Pradesh. Spread over close to 50,000 square feet with over 35,000 cubic feet of storage space, this new FC situated in Lucknow will empower thousands of small and medium businesses to leverage the growth of the digital economy and reach a wide customer base.

Along with this FC, Amazon India now has two FCs in Uttar Pradesh offering close to 150,000 cubic feet of storage space for faster delivery to customers in the region. This is one of the seven recently announced fulfilment centres for this year. Amazon will exit 2017 with 41 operational FCs in 13 states across the country with a combined storage space of close to 13 million cubic feet.

“In line with our vision to transform the way India buys and sells, we have been consistently investing in enhancing our capabilities to provide a superior experience to both – buyers and sellers. With the launch of a second FC in Uttar Pradesh, we strongly believe that we will be able to better serve our customers and also support our Prime promise of one-day and two-day delivery. Furthermore, for our sellers, the new FC will enable thousands of small and medium businesses to save money by replacing their upfront capital expense with low variable cost and pay only for the storage space they use and the orders that we fulfil,” said Akhil Saxena, vice president, India customer fulfilment, Amazon India.

“Amazon India’s investment in Uttar Pradesh with the launch of their FC signifies the growing interest of large global enterprises in the state. The FC will enable thousands of small and medium businesses selling locally created products such as handlooms to service customers seamlessly across the country. It will also provide a fillip to the local economy by enabling the growth of ancillary businesses such as packaging, transportation, logistics, and hospitality across the state. We are committed to enabling the ease of doing business and helping companies like Amazon.in to expand their presence in Uttar Pradesh,” said Navneet Sehgal, IAS, principal secretary - Khadi and Village Industries Board.

“Our FC will provide local SMEs with a platform to sell their products to millions of customers and scale their business to greater heights. The selection offered by Uttar Pradesh sellers for immediate delivery has grown more than 110 per cent this year as compared to last year. The FC we are announcing will cater to a mix of categories,” added Saxena.

Through these FCs with state-of-the-art infrastructure, Amazon India will provide a delightful customer experience through Fulfilment By Amazon (FBA). When using FBA, sellers across India send their products to Amazon’s FCs and once an order is placed, Amazon picks, packs, and ships the order to the customer, provides customer service and manages returns on behalf of the sellers. Orders fulfilled by Amazon are eligible for Cash on Delivery, Guaranteed Next-Day, Same Day, Release Day, Morning delivery and Sunday delivery. Sellers always have the flexibility to choose the number of products they want to have fulfilled by Amazon and scale according to their business requirements. (KD)
