The global badminton apparel market is poised to expand rapidly at around 11 per cent compounded annual growth rate (CAGR), surpassing a revenue share of $30 billion by 2031, according to consulting firm Fact.MR, which recently said manufacturers are majorly reliant on surging badminton popularity across prominent markets to further their gains.

While by product, top wear badminton wear is expected capture the lion’s share of the market till 2031, by material, natural fibre badminton apparel sales are likely to uptick, amid increasing environmental consciousness. E-Commerce badminton apparel sales, however, are witnessing a sharp incline, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the study found.

Significant gains were accrued in the past, as previously untapped geographies gradually began entering the global badminton space due to enhanced participation in national and international sporting events like the Olympics, it found.

This has enabled key apparel providers to sign sponsorship contracts with various governmental sports agencies and sportspersons to expand their product outreach, a press release from the Ireland-based company consulting firm said.

For instance, in 2021, YONEX Co. Ltd. entered into an eight-year long partnership with the China Badminton Association (CBA), enabling the apparel provider to become an official sponsor for the Chinese national badminton team. The contract will see national players competing and training with the company’s racquets, strings, shuttle cocks, apparel and shoes.

Similarly, in 2019, Li-Ning entered into contractual agreements with famous sports personalities across India to expand its product outreach. It had already signed a multi-year deal with the Indian Olympics Association for the 2016 Olympics games.

While the gradually surging popularity of badminton will stimulate apparel sales in the United States, China will become the most lucrative market, attributed to its dominant position in badminton participation. The United Kingdom is likely to emerge as an attractive badminton apparel market in the European region.

Absolute Protech Sports (M) Sdn. Bhd., Babolat, FELET International Holdings Sdn. Bhd., FZ Forza, Li-Ning Company Limited, RSL International, Victor Rackets Industrial Corporation, Ruby Glamour Sdn. Bhd. (Yang Yang), Yehlex (UK) & Apacs (UK), and YONEX Co. Ltd are some prominent badminton apparel manufactures profiled by market intelligence report.

In 2021, Babolat relaunched its Jet Premura flagship padel shoes with enhanced features. The new version weighs 5 grams less, down to 320 grams. The Michelin sole is designed and developed specifically for padel, to make it more flexible and elastic, while providing safety in every movement the player makes on court.

In December 2020, Yehlex (UK) announced that it intends to launch a brand new line of badminton apparel in early 2021, incorporating a brand new range of clothing. More than ten new t-shirts in a broad range of colors and designs for immediate delivery.
