Apparel manufacturers in Bangladesh have spent a lot of money in upgrading occupational safety and health of workers in their factories after the 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse. However, RMG buyers from Bangladesh are not ready to increase the price of items that they source from the country, Munshi said in a meeting with ILO country director Tuomo Poutiainen in Dhaka.
Munshi said that Bangladesh has got ILO’s cooperation in the past, and the government would continue to work with it in the future. In response, Poutiainen said, “Bangladesh’s labour industry has attained visible development and hope this progress would continue in future.” (PC)
