Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Faruque Hassan recently petitioned Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) executive chairman Mohammad Sirazul Islam to create an effective business-friendly environment and improve ease of doing business to attract more investment, especially in man-made fibre (MMF)-based textiles.

Bangladesh is still lagging behind in MMF-based garment production because of a lack of investment in this rising sector. Seventy four per cent of the garment items the country exports annually at present are made of cotton fibre, and the rest is of MMF.
The delegation also discussed specific issues being faced by a number of liaison offices of foreign buyers in Bangladesh and requested BIDA to address them.
