The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Swisscontact recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Dhaka, announcing a strategic partnership to promote sustainable and inclusive growth in Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector.

The MoU formalises collaboration under three flagship projects implemented by Swisscontact, an independent non-profit development organisation that aims at reducing poverty in developing countries.

The first is Promoting Green Growth in the RMG Sector through Skills (PROGRESS), funded by the embassy of Sweden and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The second is Initiative to Stimulate Private Investment for Resource Efficiency (InSPIRE), funded by the embassy of Sweden. It is a challenge fund that drives the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency within the sector.

The third is Building Youth Employability through Skills (BYETS), funded by the Dutch embassy, enhances youth employability by providing technical and soft skills training in RMG, agro-processing, and information and communication technology, all of which are working for the RMG sector and operate across key industrial zones like Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chattogram, a BGMEA release said.

The partnership will focus on skills development for women and youth, environmental and social compliance, clean energy adoption, and joint outreach to support factory-level transformation.
