BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) recently launched a project funded by the Danish embassy in Bangladesh that will assess energy use in the country’s textile and garment factories, provide strategic recommendations to improve efficiency and encourage renewable energy adoption.

Titled ‘Capacity building of factories in sustainability and climate action’, the project will be implemented in a partnership between BIGD, the department of electrical and electronics engineering at BRAC University, the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) at the university and Green Tree Building Consultant, BIGD announced on Facebook.

The project aims at generating evidence-based policy recommendations to support a sustainable and competitive garments sector aligned with Bangladesh’s climate goals, Munshi Sulaiman, research director at BIGD, said.

Speaking at the launch event in Dhaka, Ali Asraf Khan, sustainability and value chain advisor at the Trade Council at Danish Embassy, said the project will create awareness among factory owners and policymakers about the benefits and effectiveness of using clean energy.
