The British Retail Consortium (BRC) and ITN Productions have released ‘The Changing Face of Retail’, a news and current-affairs programme that explores how the retail industry is changing. The programme explores the impact of changes in the way people shop on businesses, staff and consumers. It will be fronted by national newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky.

Building on the BRC’s recent Retail 2020 reports, which suggest there could fewer but better jobs in the retail industry over the next decade, the programme brings to life how a digital revolution is helping to reshape the retail industry, driving increased productivity and different types of jobs and shopping experiences.

‘The Changing Face of Retail’ features interviews with an array of leading retail industry figures and news-style reports, along with sponsored editorial profiles of organisations helping to drive change within the industry.

"The retail industry is at the epicentre of huge changes and is working towards a vision of better and more rewarding jobs. For the first time, this programme brings that journey to life. We hope that people watching the film gain a better understanding of the remarkable journey that the retail industry is on and join in the conversation about it. We are delighted to have worked with a talented ITN team to tell the story," said Helen Dickinson, chief executive of the BRC.

"ITN Productions has been delighted to partner with the British Retail Consortium to explore the profound transformation the retail sector is undergoing and the resultant effect this is having on retail businesses and the many people employed throughout the sector. We hope that the programme will engage and inform viewers from across the sector and shape the future of such an important industry," said Simon Shelley, head of industry news, ITN Productions. (KD)
