Clothing & textile sector shuns social compliance norms

Asian countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, India and many other countries with a major textile and garment sector have been notorious for not adhering to social compliance and to the local labour laws, which are raising the hackles of consumers in developed economies.
Now it has been learnt that, two out of three workers in Turkey's textile and clothing sector are not registered with the social security system. Of the two million textile workers, only 689,000 are registered with the Social Security Institution (SGK), with the rest avoiding, paying their dues.
The textile sector is also considered one of the lowest paying industry, among all sectors in Turkey. To add to this, employers pay their workers, the minimum wage, so that their social security outgo too is reduced. But the loser is the worker, who receives fewer benefits at retirement, on account of low wages.
