Hosiery export sector hit by domestic problems

The once booming hosiery export sector in Pakistan has been hit badly by electric power shortages and the law and order situation in the country which has led to diminishing of export orders.

The electric shortages and law and order situation have resulted in untimely deliveries of orders received from overseas markets. Experts aver that orders have not fallen as much due to economic crisis, but mainly due to these twin factors.

They say that foreign buying houses of the major hosiery markets were willing to place orders provided that these were dispatched on time, which under the present circumstances could not be guaranteed.

The quality of hosiery products that the sector exports has not been impacted by the global crisis and these orders have now been diverted to neighbouring countries like India, Bangladesh and China.
