India's CII to guide TEA units to improve energy efficiency

Hyderabad-based Green Business Centre (GBC) of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will guide units of the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) in developing ‘green buildings’, improving energy efficiency in manufacturing processes, recycling used water to minimise wastes and introducing environment-friendly practices in the apparel production chain.
The initiative will improve the image of Tirupur-made products globally, a report in a top south Indian daily quoted GBC principal counsellor PV Kiran Ananth as saying.
‘Green buildings’ will be made of environment-friendly materials having less volatile organic compounds and provisions for good indoor air quality and water management facilities.
CII will also assist the industrial units in carrying out investment-grade energy audit reports to trace the requirements needed for improving ‘green compliances’.
Based on the audit report, CII would help arrange finance for the units through Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and other financial institutions. (DS)
