The Indian government has set up an inter-ministerial group to study issues related to the e-commerce sector in the country, according to commerce secretary Rita Teaotia. The discussion will involve industry representatives and will find out possible areas in the policy framework that need attention, she told a press conference in Hyderabad recently.

The e-commerce sector is growing rapidly by not just selling goods but also through services like as transport aggregators.

However, there is no time-frame for coming out with the recommendations, she said.

Teaotia said negotiations with the European Union (EU) on a free trade agreement were never called off by India; it was the EU which withdrew in 2012. India has been again discussing with the EU for the last two years in that regard, she added. (DS)
