Talks for better US-India trade deals that meet the requirements of both the nations are at the initial stages, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said recently. A number of US government officials, who just returned after attending the maiden 2+2 dialogue in New Delhi, have expressed willingness for such deals, she said at her daily news conference.

Trade related issues were also discussed at the strategic dialogue in India, according to the principal deputy assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia Alice Well.

Though tariffs and non-tariff barriers have been long-standing concerns, both sides are working to address market access challenge issues, news wires quoted her as saying.

The United States at present has free trade agreements with 20 countries, including Australia, Canada, Singapore, South Korea, Peru, Panama, Bahrain and Jordan. (DS)
