New Fair Harbor swimwear use coconut husk, PET bottles

Two new products by Fair Harbor, the New York-based firm that manufactures swimwear out of recycled plastic bottles, also use upcycled coconuts, according to founder CEO Jake Danehy. The discarded husks of coconuts are broken down, spun into polyester and used in performance boardshort The Rockaway and The Anchor, an athletic short with built-in-liner.
Recycling single use plastic is the company’s focus, while simultaneously creating a high-quality product to change the way consumers view single use plastic, Danehy told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.
It is going to create less waste in landfills or the oceans and will help fix the problem of fast fashion, he said. (DS)
