O'Neills, the largest sportswear manufacturer in Ireland, has reported a 200 percent increase in its sales in Australia in the last two years.

The company has seen a boom in the sales of GAA tops owing to the rising number of Irish people moving and settling in Australia. O'Neills directly sells to GAA clubs in Australia.

The company is trying to increase earnings in overseas markets, which is necessary to maintain jobs in Ireland, according to Paul Towell, Director of O'Neills.

The company's domestic sales in Ireland have fallen by 20 percent in the past two years. In this context, the increase in sales in Australia is being considered significant though it is from a small base.

Established in 1918, O'Neills has manufacturing units in Dublin, Strabane and Tyrone County. Its jerseys are put on by top GAA stars.

Currently, the company is expanding its presence in the US, the Far East and the United Kingdom. The firm intends to increase its export sales from the present 15 percent to 25 percent within a year.
