Lacoste SA, the French apparel retailer, is expanding its presence in the Canadian market, after posting good results in 2011.
Last year, Lacoste's retail sales in Canada jumped by 10 percent year-on-year to around Ca$ 80 million.
As a part of its expansion plans, the company has already launched its own 14 concept boutiques across Canada to promote the Lacoste brand.
The company is also partnering with high-end Canadian retailers like The Bay, Holt Renfrew and Harry Rosen for merchandising.
Founded in 1933, Lacoste is currently in the midst of modernizing and repositioning its brand.
Since its inception, the French company has been known for sports-inspired apparels, and over the years it has increased its range of items.
In the 1990s, Lacoste lost its 'elite' tag when its products were too widely distributed in the US, under a partnership agreement with a US firm.
Subsequently, Lacoste ended the partnership and regained the control of the brand and opened Lacoste boutiques in the US. It also focused on providing wholesale for high-end retailers.
Today, Lacoste's product lines target both young as well as traditional customers.
