Alif Investments, which has made inroads in Dubai's mid-market apparel retail segment through J., now plans to unveil a premium fashion line, which will be offered through a new retail chain to be launched next year.

There is good clientele who prefer high-end apparel and accessories in the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Alif CEO Asif Jabbar said.

He added that the new retail concept would specialize in Western wear with an ethnic touch.

While Junaid Jamshed will be providing the design imprint for the new range, the sourcing of the fabric will be done from Pakistan.

Since J. was established in 2009, a change has been observed in retailing of ethnic apparel with entry of new retailers and a shift from secondary locations to malls and large-format stores in high-street locations.

Meanwhile, the shoppers' base has also grown to include buyers from the Arabian countries and the West, in addition to the traditional shoppers from the Indian sub-continent. The opportunity to sell to tourists has also increased.

Alif Investments will set up the first store of its new high-end apparel retail chain in Pakistan's Karachi, instead of Dubai. The company will be exploring locations in upmarket areas for its subsequent outlets.
