Swedish apparel exports continue to thrive in the midst of the Euro-zone crisis and a looming financial crisis, industry experts said.

Till May 31, 2012, Sweden exported apparels worth 5.1 billion kronor or US$ 772.7 million, significantly above exports of 4.66 billion kronor achieved during the corresponding period of last year.

Mr. Ola Toftegaard of the Swedish Textile and Clothing Industries Association said the country’s apparel exports during the first five months of the current year broke all previous records.

The data for June is still being compiled, but Mr. Toftegaard sees a clear uptrend for first half of the current year.

In spite of financial crisis, the Swedish apparel industry as a whole is advancing in overseas market and the unprecedented growth witnessed during the first quarter of 2012 sustains, Mr. Toftegaard said.

Exports of the Swedish apparel brand, Tiger of Sweden, increased by 26 percent year-on-year during last year. The demand from the northern European countries increased the most, said company Export Manager Per Håkans, who foresees the rising trend to continue.

The rise in Swedish apparel exports is just a reflection of the general positive trend for the brand, he said and added that during 2011-12, the brand’s turnover increased by 12 percent to touch all-time high of 765 million kronor.
