Mandatory inspection of non-baby apparels in Taiwan

1 min read

Mandatory inspection for non-baby textile and apparel products has come into effect in Taiwan from October 1, 2012.

The Taiwanese Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection (BSMI) has also simplified the inspection procedure for 310 of the 346 non-baby items.

The simplified inspection procedure is applicable to a range of garments, hosiery, sweaters and swimwear.

However, 48 baby garments meant for 0-2 years age group or for height less than 86 cm, including innerwear, bedding and towels are not included in the items meant for mandatory inspection.

Inspection will be based on random sampling method, and those products falling short of ‘Safety of Textiles (General Requirements) and ‘Safety of children’s clothing specifications’ requirements would be sent to factory for testing, the BMSI said.
