M&S launches its first recycled outfit

The British high-street retail giant Marks & Spencer, also known as M&S, has launched its first outfit made entirely with the old unwanted clothes of shoppers.

The product, which is a limited-edition ladies wool coat, is a result of the brand’s noble recycling campaign called ‘shwopping’, started in April 2012.

The ongoing campaign is a part of the brand’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, wherein M&S asks its customers to give an old clothing item each time they purchase a new one. This way the brand has collected over a million of unwanted old clothes till date.

The donated clothing is further given away to the worldwide charity organization Oxfam.

The apparels that are unfit for donation or resale are being shipped to Italy, where it is reduced to fibre, and then cleaned and developed into new fabrics before selling it back to M&S suppliers.

Founded in 1884, M&S specialises in selling of clothing and luxury food products.
