Wal-Mart has to face new competitor in the name of Loblaw, which is all-set to sweep the apparel market with its cut-rate new brand Joe-Fresh.
Joe carries the name of fashion chieftain Joseph Mimran, who designed men's and women's wear for Loblaw, while Fresh refers to styles that will be refreshed time to time, and will never become old-fashioned.
The apparel presentation is important for Loblaw, country's largest supermarket chain as it tries to gapple with poor financial results and hurdles in introducing non-grocery items.
Industry experts foresee fierce battle between the two giant retailers as Wal-Mart plans to launch more apparel at larger superstores in Canada, later this year or early next year.
