David Jones, Target, Country Road, Little Label and Lowes - all major apparel and garment labels from Australia will soon be sourcing apparels and textiles from India.
Already, the world's leading retailers from US like Wal-Mart, Sears, VF Corporation, Diesel etc having been sourcing apparels and textiles from here and now, the Australians will join them in India.
This was revealed by Sarat Chandran, Director, Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce, who returned yesterday after a 10-day tour of Australia.
He informed that all the five retailing companies grossing AS $2 billion in sales were keen to set up buying offices in India by the year end.
As for the location, Chennai seems hot favourite due to its proximity with textile hubs - Coimbatore and Tirupur.
Chennai has excellent air, sea and land connections, besides having excellent infrastructure, Chandran added.
He said Australian retailers were moving from China to India in a bid to diversify their product range and quality.
None of the Australian buying houses are currently operating from India.
Chandran, informed that Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce received requests from nine Australian companies, seeking partners in outsourcing operations.
