Turkey's apparel exports rise 8.7% in Jan-Nov'13

The apparel exports from Turkey witnessed an increase of 8.7 percent year-on-year to US$ 15.95 billion during the first eleven months of 2013, as per the data released by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Association (ITKIB) and Turkey Exporters Assembly (TIM).

According to the November 2013 Export Data Report of TIM, Last year during the same period Turkey exported garments worth US$ 14.66 billion.

The apparel exports from Turkey during the January to November 2013 period accounted for 11.5 percent of the overall exports from the country.

According to the TIM data, the highest exports were made from the knitted apparel and accessories category, with exports amounting to US$ 8.53 billion during the first eleven months of 2013, followed by woven apparel and accessories with exports worth US$ 5.26 billion, and other items and household textiles category, with exports amounting to US$ 1.99 billion during the period.

Germany remained the main destination for Turkish apparel exports, with the country importing apparel worth US$ 3.40 billion. Germany accounted for 21.3 percent of the total apparel exports from Turkey during the January to November period.

The UK ranked second, with Turkey exporting apparel worth US$ 1.97 billion to the UK, followed by Spain with US$ 1.38 billion, France with US$ 1.28 billion and the Netherlands with Turkey exporting apparel goods worth US$ 818 million to the country, during the January to November period.

According to the TIM data, 74 percent of apparel exports from Turkey were destined to countries in the European Union (EU) during the first eleven months of 2013, indicating an increase of 6.9 percent, compared to the same period last year.
