Garment manufacturing companies in Thailand are producing uniforms for ten football teams competing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup that is scheduled to begin on June 12 in Brazil, Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DTIP) has revealed, reports National News Bureau of Thailand.

Sportswear giants Nike and Adidas have selected Thailand as one of their suppliers of team outfits for the World Cup, DITP director-general Nantawan Sakuntanaga said.

Four Thai firms—Nice Group, Hong Seng Group, Hi-Tech Group and Liberty Group—are currently producing both official uniforms as well as training outfits for the ten national teams that are playing in the football tournament in Brazil.

The Thai companies would also produce replicas of the national uniforms for sale to football fans across the globe.

The total number of orders placed by the Nike and Adidas with Thai firms adds up to about 3 million units, according to the DITP.

Sportswear accounts for one-third of all apparel exports from Thailand, and hence, the FIFA World Cup is likely to help the domestic sector grow by about 5 percent year-on-year, with the value of exports increasing by more than US$ 3 billion over last year, predicts Wanlop Witanakorn, vice chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries and president of Hi-Tech Group.
