According to the ADEX official, although the US accounted for 64.2 percent of total children’s clothing exported from the country, the exports of childrenswear declined by 6.6 percent to the US during the first two months, reports Peruvian news agency andina.
During the months of January and February 2014, Peru exported children’s clothing worth $3.8 million to 30 different countries, registering a fall of 42.7 percent compared to the same months last year, owing to the decline in exports of clothing to neighboring countries such as Venezuela, Mr. Segura added.
As per the ADEX data, during the first two months of 2014, Chile ranked second for Peruvian exports of kidswear, however exports of kids clothing declined by 73 percent during the months to the country.
Exports to countries such as Ecuador, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina and Bolivia also dipped during the months of January and February by 31 percent, 74.2 percent, 92.8 percent, 91.2 percent and 90.7 percent, respectively.
Mr. Segura informed that the decrease in exports of kidswear to these countries could be attributed to the trade barriers imposed by some of these countries that affect free trade.
In January 2014, Peru exported textiles and clothing worth $130 million registering a rise of 2.8 percent year-on-year, as per the Peruvian Ministry of Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR).
