According to the January 2014 Knitwear Foreign Trade report of ICEX, Spain exported knitwear worth €266.18 million during the month of January, whereas the country’s knitwear imports totaled €443.53 million during the same month.
Imports of knitwear by Spain during the month of January 2014, registered a surge of 10.4 percent, compared to the same month last year.
According to the ICEX data, France was the main destination for knitwear exports from Spain during the month of January with the €35.18 million knitwear exports destined to the country, followed by Italy with €31.63 million, Portugal with €30.16 million, Germany with €17.50 million and the UK with €11.02 million.
The highest exports of knitwear were made from the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia with knitwear exports amounting to €100.35 million during the month of January 2014, followed by Galicia with €76.05 million, Madrid with €30.98 million, Aragon with €24.87 million and Andalucia with €12.14 million.
Overall clothing exports from Spain totaled €670.1 million during the month of January 2014, recording a rise of 6.7 percent year-on-year, as per the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness data.
In 2013, Spain exported textile and clothing worth €12 billion, indicating a rise of 12.4 percent year-on-year, of which exports from the garments sub-sector totaled €8.6 billion, registering a surge of 15.4 percent compared to 2012.
