Ministry of Textile is to launch workers training programme within garment factory premises.
It has selected about 20 factories throughout the country to develop technical training institutes to train female workers to meet the demand of trained workers in garment industry.
An amount of Rs 96 million from Export Development Fund has been approved for the scheme and with necessary infrastructure facilities managed by private sector in their units.
Private sector will be required to bear major share of training costs whereas Government will provide assistance in form of stipend to trainees.
The existing technical training centres have been unable to satisfy industry's requirements with regard to number of trained workers and quality of training delivered to them.
The Government has decided to develop training facilities under direct supervision of industry.
Arrangements for launching training programme were discussed at Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association.
A meeting was chaired by Syed Masood Alam Rizvi, Secretary Ministry of Textile, and was attended by important industrialists from knitwear sector.
Applications from intending trainees for a three-month intensive training will be provided, particularly to female worker, both for knitwear and woven garment factories.
Educated young girls can adopt garment-making as their career by getting training under the programme.
They will be given a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500 in addition to free training and transport facilities.
