Pantaloon eyeing profits via purveyor fairs

In the first round itself 'Saathi' enterpriser by Pantaloon Retail at a fair in Ahmedabad, did business worth Rs100 crore and hopes to accomplish deals worth over Rs700 crore under Stage I of its initiative targeted towards mid-sized vendors.

The company is planning a similar two-day fair in Delhi towards May end followed by Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Kishore Biyani, Managing Director of Pantaloon Retail, said, they expect a large number of Delhi firms for such deal and in terms of trade, they expect to transactions worth Rs200-300 crore to be concluded during the two-day fair.

Damodar Mall, President - foods, Pantaloon Retail, said that the company was looking at product sourcing deals (from such categories as apparel, food and general merchandise) for all its formats - Pantaloon, Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar.

They would help these companies in terms of cost saving and product development, he said.

Food Bazaar would become a distributor of the Amul Company and set up parlours within its stores and aid product development.

In Ahmedabad, the company has signed mega deals with Rasna, Bharat Vijay Mills and Ankur Salts benefiting all parties concerned.
