General Customs reported that in March 2006, Vietnam exported backpack, suitcase, hat and umbrella worth US $4.73 million to Japan, representing around 30 percent drop as compared to the same month, last year.
Total earnings through those goods from Japan in January-March period marked a 8.55 percent decline at $15.32 million.
For bag, backpack and suitcase only, export revenue to that Asian country in March 2006 got 35 percent down, worth $2 million.
However, the figure of hat exports saw slight increase that earned $1.5 million.
According to MOT, this downtrend is caused by fierce competition from Chinese enterprises, who offer diversified goods as well as advantages in price.
In the first two months 2006, exports turnover from those goods of China to Japan made record at 30.01 percent growth.
