The magnificent Waterfront Hall in Belfast will play host to this year's SDC international colour conference, exhibition and gala awards dinner. The Society has brought together 14 of the world's leading designers, brand owners, retailers, colourists, technologists and scientists to address the theme 'Shaping the future of colour…the drive for innovation'. Date is Friday 13 October 2006.
Being held in the 150th anniversary year of the discovery of the first synthetic dye, and on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Society's Northern Ireland Region, the conference will offer insights into new research, new thinking and new practices in colour. Invest Northern Ireland and the gala awards dinners are sponsoring the conference in the evening by long-time supporters of the Society, VeriVide.
Now an established highlight in the coloration calendar, the Society says the event is aimed at everyone from designers and colourists to manufacturers and retailers. Speakers include fashion designer Katharine Hamnett; broadcaster Dr Adam Hart-Davis; Becky Hurd, senior materials researcher from Nike in the US and Alan Wragg from Tesco Clothing.
They will be joined by an eminent line-up of scientists and technologists including Prof Tony Ryan OBE, ICI professor of physical chemistry at the University of Sheffield and director of the Polymer Centre; Prof. Ronnier Luo, a world expert in colour and imaging science and David Lewis, professor emeritus, University of Leeds.
