Retail roar in India has forced garment exporters to bolster capacities and cater to the 'hungry' domestic sector.
Before foreign retail brands come in drones attacking local markets, Indian exporters want to eat this juicy morsel, stated Ashok Rajani, Chairman, Export Promotion Committee of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).
Rajani, also the Chairman of export company, Midas Touch Apparel, plans to float a domestic brand, and utilize his capacities to serve domestic retailers like Pantaloon, Shoppers' Stop and Lifestyle.
Another Rs100-crore export firm Kaytee Corporation has also decided to launch its own brand after having enough experience of market, revealed Premal Udani, Managing Director.
The Rs300-crore Technocraft Industries launched its own domestic brand, Haute Chilli, in October '05.
Sharad Kumar Saraf, MD, Technocraft said that with production capacity of 450,000 pieces a month, company has been receiving orders from Pantaloons, Shoppers' Stop, and Reliance.
