Polo Ralph appoints Joseph J. Barrato as President for Purple & Black label

Leader in the design, marketing and distribution of premium lifestyle apparel, home, accessories and fragrances Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation announced that Joseph J. Barrato will join the Company on July 10, 2006 as President of Ralph Lauren Purple Label and Black Label, reporting to Jacki Nemerov, Executive Vice President.
"We are delighted to have Joe join our menswear team. His appreciation for the Ralph Lauren aesthetic coupled with his extensive experience in the luxury menswear industry make him uniquely qualified to lead the expansion of our Purple Label and Black Label menswear lines," said Ms. Nemerov.
In his new role Mr. Barrato will work closely with Joy Herfel, President of Polo Ralph Lauren menswear. Ms. Herfel oversees the Polo Ralph Lauren menswear lines including Polo by Ralph Lauren, RLX and Golf. She has recently taken on the role of expanding the Ralph Lauren men's denim business.
Mr. Barrato's extensive experience in the luxury menswear industry positions him well to assume responsibility for Ralph Lauren Purple Label and Black Label menswear. He was most recently Chief Executive Officer and President of Brioni USA, an Italian maker of luxury menswear.
He began his career at Brooks Brothers and his more recent experience includes positions as President of Cluett Peabody as well as Vice President and Divisional Merchandise Manager at a variety of prestigious retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman and Garfinckels in Washington D.C. Mr. Barrato also had his own retail stores in Manhasset, NY and New York City. Early in his career, he worked with Ralph Lauren during the development of the Polo label.
