Charming Shoppes launches Lane Bryant outlet stores

Charming Shoppes Inc, a leading multi-brand, multi-channel specialty apparel retailer specializing in women's plus-size apparel, has launched Lane Bryant Outlet with the opening of the company's first outlet store at Franklin Mills in Philadelphia.

Month-long grand opening celebrations are scheduled for the company's first Lane Bryant Outlet stores. Three additional stores will open within the next week, in Gurnee Mills, Gurnee, Illinois; Colorado Mills, Lakewood, Colorado; and The Shops At Las Americas, San Ysidro, California.

Commenting on the launch of Lane Bryant Outlet, Dorrit Bern, Chairman, CEO and President of Charming Shoppes Inc, said, "This is a very exciting day for both Lane Bryant customers and Charming Shoppes. We are delighted to be bringing fashionable Lane Bryant apparel to outlet shoppers through Lane Bryant Outlet, and at the same time, embark on another exciting growth opportunity for Lane Bryant. In a series of phased openings, we plan to open nearly 80 Lane Bryant Outlet stores this summer alone, and to continue to pursue additional locations over time."

In December 2005, the company had announced its plans for Lane Bryant to enter the outlet channel through the assumption of approx. 75 store leases in premier outlet locations throughout the country. This week's initial wave of store openings bring that plan to fruition, and by the end of July 2006, the company anticipates operating nearly 80 Lane Bryant Outlet store locations.
