Sara Lee Branded Apparel opens new West Coast distribution center

Sara Lee Branded Apparel announced that it will open its first distribution center on the West Coast in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
The facility will be managed by APL Logistics, a provider of global logistics and supply chain services, and APL Logistics plans to employ approximately 150 workers at the facility.
"Opening this facility on the West Coast offers increased flexibility to effectively distribute several of our product categories produced in Asia and Central America to our customers," said Lee Woodard, VP of global logistics, Sara Lee Branded Apparel. "It is another step in our evolution to improve operating efficiencies and, more important, to reduce overall lead times and improve speed-to-market."
"Our arrangement with APL Logistics, who has a significant footprint in southern California, rapidly establishes our distribution capabilities near the port of Long Beach, in an environment that offers expansion within the same facility as growth dictates," said Woodard.
The distribution center will initially be comprised of 250,000 square feet and will begin receiving product later this month.
"We're excited about this new opportunity with Sara Lee Branded Apparel," said Brian Lutt, President of APL Logistics. "We have great strength in managing complex supply chains with origin and destination services and we have a long history of serving the apparel industry, so this will be a great fit for both companies."
Sara Lee Branded Apparel's success in designing, manufacturing, sourcing and selling a broad range of apparel essentials including T-shirts, bras, panties, men's underwear, kids' underwear, socks, hosiery, casual wear and active wear generated $4.7 billion in net sales in fiscal 2005.
