Department store sales slip 0.9%

Japan Department Stores Association has released sales figure of 96 department stores which are operating 277 outlets across the Japan.
Department store sales have been declining for last four months and in August also it reported 0.9 percent drop to yen514.73 billion, informed Japan Department Stores Association.
In July, department stores sales reported fall of 1.5 percent compared to same period last year.
While in Tokyo, department store sales dropped 1.6 percent to yen118.95 billion in August, 2006 compared to same period last year.
Clothing which earns more than 32.7 percent of total revenue reported 1.7 percent fall in sale for the period in consideration.
There was 0.8 percent increase in sales of furniture and home appliances, which incorporated 15.5 percent of total revenue and private belongings which consist 12.7 percent of total revenue, gained 0.2 percent.
On the other hand sales of daily home products, which make 5.6 percent of total revenue decreased 3.2 percent.
