With a view to attract FDI in the Indian Apparel sector and to give a major boost to exports in the Apparel sourcing/manufacturing sector, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), India's apex body for furthering Apparel exports, is setting up a world class Apparel International Mart (AIM) at Gurgaon (Haryana-NCR) comprising of over 400 units at a cost of approx. Rs 60 cr.
The Apparel International Mart (AIM) shall showcase the expertise of the Indian Apparel sector in a single location and shall act as a one-stop sourcing venue for foreign buyers.
The 400 showrooms shall showcase every kind of product manufactured by companies across the length and breadth of the country.
The AIM shall cater to a global audience comprising of buying houses, apparel importers, fashion labels, designers, large format retail manufacturers, distributors, fabric manufacturers and general buyers.
At the AIM, such visitors can experience and compare various alternatives before awarding contracts or striking alliances. To supplement the AIM, AEPC also plans to promote exports by way of conducting road shows in and arranging for large scale trade missions from major investing/buying countries.
Says Mr Vijay Agarwal, Chairman, AEPC, “Besides the US and the EU, we plan to target East Europe, South East Asia and Latin America and which have good growth potential."
"The idea of AIM came to us from the concept of Apparel Parks which been devised by the Government. While Apparel Parks are essentially for manufacturing AIM is for marketing/branding.”
The AIM shall be fully operational by January 2007, according to official AEPC release.
