First rise in apparel & accessories exports to US recorded in 2006

In Jan-Aug 2006, China's apparel and accessories exports to US reached US $9.08 billion, rising 1.3 percent from the corresponding period last year. this incidentally shows the first growth in apparel export to US this year, according to China's Customs.

Export to EU recorded revenues worth $10.72 billion, up 9.6 percent, enabling the region to retain its [position as the the biggest market for China's apparel and accessories industry.

China's apparel export to Japan, the second biggest market amounted to $9.74 billion, rising 6.9 percent compared to the same period during the previous year.

Also during January-August 2006, the unit price of China's apparel exported to the world posted a modest rise but prices of the products exported to US and EU showed a relatively faster growth, according to China's Customs.

In the first eight months, China exported 18.9 billion pieces (sets) clothing (including knitwear and woven clothes) to the world, raising 23.5 percent, and the average price promoting 8 percent in general.

The unit prices to the markets under quota control climbed up, with the average prices to US and EU advancing 26.5 percent and 22.9 percent respectively.

A widespread growth was seen in the country's textile and apparel export. Guangdong's export accumulated to $22.04 billion, marking an increase over 60 percent in export, becoming the province with fastest export growth in China.
